Project Description
In 2019, this customer entrusted Sime Darby Energy Solutions Sdn Bhd with the EPCC of a new trigeneration plant. Their current TNB power supply is insufficient to cater for the additional plant demand, hence this customer opted for a double gas engine configuration of Kawasaki KG-12 gas engines to achieve the required total power output of 10.4 MW. In doing so, this customer became the pioneers to commission Kawasaki gas engines in Malaysia. Two (2) heat recovery steam generators are installed to generate the gas engine’s exhaust to achieve a steam output of 4.3 tph. In addition, the gas engine jacket water heat is recovered to supply hot water to the absorption chiller to produce 320 USRT chilled water required for the plant operation resulting in the overall increase in plant efficiency.
The trigeneration plant was successfully commissioned in 2021. Since then, this customer enjoyed around RM 200,000 to RM 300,000 of savings and a substantial reduction of CO2 emissions of around 12,000 tons/year.
