Introduction

Sime Darby Energy Solutions Sdn Bhd (SDES), is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sime Darby Industrial Sdn Bhd.

SDES is an established Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) contractor primarily for Cogeneration (Cogen) plants in Malaysia. We offer comprehensive and sustainable engineering solutions of the highest standard from the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Cogen plant.

We provide after-sales support and Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) for gas turbines, gas engines and other balance of plant (BOP) equipment.

Our Journey

Our journey began in 1997 when a collaboration was established with Kawasaki Gas Turbine Asia Sdn Bhd (KGA) to utilise their gas turbine as the prime mover for our Cogen plant. In 1998, we installed the first gas turbine Cogen plant in Tractors Engineering Complex, Malaysia.

Our track record over the years boasts more than 15 Cogen plants constructed in Malaysia across various sectors including oleochemicals, chemicals, refineries and district cooling. The plants vary in size, either using gas turbines or gas engines as the prime mover depending on the client’s needs.

We have also constructed the Gas District Cooling Plant that provides centralised chilled water supply distribution for the commercial and government buildings of Putrajaya. Our capabilities of overcoming complex problems and creating innovative solutions have enabled us to breakthrough various engineering feats. We have constructed the first double storey Cogen plant in Malaysia for our customer in Pulau Indah, Selangor.

Furthermore, we have also installed a double gas engine tri-generation plant in Kemaman, Terengganu. Our reputation also encompasses in liaising with relevant parties especially those with authority such as Suruhanjaya Tenaga, MIDA, Malaysian Green Technology Corporation and etc.

Due to our competency, we have managed to resolve various issues in Cogen synchronization and tie-in with the main grid like upgrades to 33 kV and issues related to fault current limiter. SDES has also been trusted by various clients to provide LTSA services which is to provide maintenance and support of the Cogen plant mainly for the gas turbine or gas engine.

Our maintenance capabilities have also expanded to cover for other balance of plant equipment such as gas compressors and generators. We provide reliable and quick response to our customers’ needs in the event of a breakdown at their Cogen plant. Our services also include comprehensive monitoring of the Cogen plant through SCADA, which allows real time monitoring of the plant. Thus, enabling our team to respond quicker to potential faults in the plant.
